Hawaii Craftsmen 50th Anniversary Strategic Partnerships

Aloha,

Help us celebrate Hawaiʻi Craftsmen’s 50th Anniversary Year. In an effort to support an increased presence of fine craft programs during the year we are seeking partnerships with other art and fine craft organizations and community art centers, groups, and galleries. We hope that you will see the mutual benefits of these Strategic Partnerships and ideally we can begin an on-going working relationship to mutually support and promote Hawaii’s fine craft artists working primarily in functional and non-functional 2- and 3 dimensional art in clay, fiber, glass, wood, metal, stone, and mixed media.

We are accepting proposals (see attached) for exhibits, art events, and workshops. We are open to supporting programs that may already be a part of your annual schedule. If you have the resources for a new activity we are open to partnering for that as well. It is important to stress that Hawaiʻi Craftsmen will not be presenting these events; we will only play a supporting role through partial funding opportunities and shared PR/promotions. The planning and implementation of these partnerships will be your responsibility. If this is a concern for your organization, remember we are open to supporting your existing programming. Please see the attached brief describing our vision for these Strategic Partnerships. This current vision is a starting place – we are open to working with you to develop mutually beneficial programs.

Our over-arching goal is to celebrate and promote public art exhibitions, art displays, and events featuring fine craft arts and artists and by supporting artists working in clay, fiber, glass, wood, metal, stone, and mixed media through formal and informal workshops and educational opportunities. Additional goals and details are in the attached brief.

We consider this a fine way to celebrate 50 years of fine crafts in Hawaiʻi and we look forward to receiving an application from you at least 3 months in advance of your planned project. We are hopeful that together we can increase the appreciation and support of fine craft art throughout the state and beyond!

Sincerely,

The Hawaiʻi Craftsmen Board of Directors

Strategic Partnerships: Exhibits and Workshops

What:  Hawaiʻi Craftsmen (HC) will provide partial financial support, sponsorship, awards, or funding for workshops and exhibits focused on fine craft arts during our 50th anniversary year celebrations – from fall 2016 through the end of 2017. Fundraising and financial allocations for non-profit and neighbor island partnerships requesting funding will be given priority.

Why:

  • 1.      Expand our 50th anniversary celebrations across the state
  • 2.      Support workshop and exhibition opportunities for all our members
  • 3.      Strengthen and expand relationships with other Hawaiʻi fine craft organizations
  • 4.      Grow public appreciation in Hawaiʻi for clay, fiber, glass, metal, stone and mixed media fine crafts
  • 5.      Grow awareness of and membership in Hawaiʻi Craftsmen

How:  HC has developed criteria for partnership opportunities and will share these opportunities to all island organizations and art centers, as funding allows. Before submitting applications, all potential partners will liaise with designated island representatives as listed on the application. Organizations or individuals applying for programs and events co-sponsorship must complete a one-page application form (Download Link Below) and submit it to their island representative at least 90 days before the event.

Following application, organizations, venues, or hui of members/artists selected for HC co-sponsorship will enter into a Letter of Agreement (LOA) with HC, which will clearly define the requirements of the agreement and the nature of support. The following duties and responsibilities will be outlined in a Letter of Agreement (LOA) and signed by both parties; additional agreement specifics for each Strategic Partnership will be outlined in the LOA

  • 1.      Event will be planned and implemented by the core sponsoring organization (not HC) or artists and other volunteers who may or may not be HC members; the HC board/organization will not be involved or responsible for any of the event planning logistics, or implementation details (other than what is agreed upon in the LOA).
  • 2.      Joint promotions of the event or program (call to artists & invite to event): an appointed HC communications coordinator will send out media information; postcards printed and mailed to HC members/mailing list; info made available for HC events page of website. Sponsoring organization will provide details of event to HC project point person and promote event to their own contacts.
  • 3.      Where feasible, joint fundraising for the activity must occur; HC does not expect to be the sole provider of cash support; a portion of HC cash contributions can be used for awards or scholarships; the amount of the contribution will be dependent upon the success of HC fundraising via grants and solicitations.
  • 4.      It is agreed that the HC name and logo, will be prominently displayed on all printed and media materials (along with other sponsors) and an HC anniversary sticker placed by all HC members in exhibits (where applicable).
  • 5.      HC Membership brochures will be on-hand during all aspects of the event and there will be a discount on entry or registration fees for HC members.

A final report, including photos, will be compiled and sent to HC upon completion of event within one month of the end of the event.
